Here is my current updated studio policy. I’ve scoured the internet, looking at other people’s policies in order to get ideas for mine. So I really do apologize if you’re reading along and find your words. I didn’t ever intentionally plagiarize, but I’ve read so much that I probably have. If you find your exact words, please let me know and I will change mine.
Anyway, I would love love LOVE any input on my policy. Tell me if you think I’m too harsh, not harsh enough, if I didn’t cover an important item, and on and on. Be honest. Even if it’s brutal. I’m a big girl. I can take it. Thanks so much!
The annual tuition is divided into 12 equal installments. Tuition is based on enrollment, not attendance, and reserves your child’s exclusive lesson time throughout the year, whether he/she attends each lesson or not. The tuition payment is due at the first lesson of each month. If the student misses the first lesson of the month or forgets to bring the tuition, payment should be mailed so that it reaches me before the next lesson. Lessons are ½ hour for early beginners and 45 minutes for late beginners and on.
There is a one time (per year) book payment, due at the first lesson of every school year. Please note that some students move faster through books and may need more than what is covered in the payment. If this happens, I will bill for subsequent books. I am very careful with the books I select so that money is not ever spent unnecessarily.
Attendance and Makeup Lessons:
Because I run a full studio, I only offer other student’s cancelled lessons as makeup times. If your child cannot attend a lesson, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance or on the same day if your child becomes sick. With proper notice, I will do my best to notify you of other cancellations so that you may swap a lesson time. Unfortunately, I may not always be able to reschedule with another cancelled lesson, so it is important to make an effort to attend all scheduled lessons! If I need to cancel a lesson, I will give a refund.
Please arrive on time so we can take full advantage of every minute. If you arrive late, the lesson will still last until the end of the allotted time. Make sure your child brings all necessary books and notebooks. Parents may sit in on a lesson any time. Students should be picked up promptly at the end of their lesson time.
I provide at least two recitals per year. These dates will be listed on the calendar sent out at the beginning of the school year. Recitals are an important part of a student’s development (and lots of fun!). Please make every effort to attend all recitals.
I have included a list of days off for holidays. Because tuition is based on the annual total number lessons scheduled, you are not paying for days off. Monday students are scheduled for some Monday holidays so that they may receive equal lesson times. If your child is going to be gone on a holiday, please let me know as soon as possible so we may make other arrangements.
Please encourage your child to practice. Practice is where the student really is able to solidify what he/she learns in lessons. Practice time should be fun and never forced! In general, a student should practice at least 5 days a week. The amount of time at each practice session will vary for each student and will be discussed during lesson times.
