It’s finally summer here. We had rain nearly every single day in the month of June. It energized me beyond belief. Now that we’re approaching 100 degree weather, I’m feeling the motivation being sapped from my body.
Will you share a happy story from your week with me?
It could be about music or teaching if you want, but it really doesn’t have to be. I just have a suspicion that many of us could benefit from some happy stories today!

Hi again Rebecca. If you are looking for a fun story and a little motivation you should read “Note by Note: a Celebration of the Piano Lesson” by Tricia Tunstall. It is a quick read and the perfect book for summer.
I have many new and interesting things that happened to me this week. For starters, I WON THE GIVE AWAY! Thanks again! I also am starting to pick up new students. I picked up two new students in two weeks, and I just got another call the other day! My grand total is now three new students! What a great feeling this is! Lot’s of great things going on with me right now! I have also been working on strictly the major scales with my students right now, and I am happy to say that ALL of my student’s have seemed to be dilligent with working on them. As my fellow piano teachers know; it takes about 30 seconds into the lesson to realize if your students have practiced or not!

This morning I had a 6-year-old student, as she was undertaking the very difficult task of drawing a line of quarter notes, tell me:

“Oh my gosh. I just REALLY need a cup of coffee.”
Don’t we all, haha!
A parent that has been on my waiting list for a year, called me on her own to say that she really wants me to teach her kids! Oh, how I will put them at the top of the list!
A box of new release music arrived on my doorstep today, which is a double bonus- a package and new music. Woohoo!

Hi, i’m very new to teaching, and I didn’t think I would be doing it for a while. But out of the blue, one of my pianist friends called me to ask if I would substitute-teach her three young students while she is out of town!! It has been a great experience. I liked sitting in with her the first week to get a feel for how she does things and where they’re going, and I think I’ll get to work closely with her in the future. I just have to try to figure out how to shape them as all-around musicians. I feel an incredible responsibility and want to do everything right for them.
