I like your idea, and Wendy’s too! I draw circles of increasingly larger size under the notes that are supposed to crescendo. Then, I draw a crescendo sign over them with the circles fitting inside the wedge. Hard to describe, but visually very effective!

I heard a teacher once say that she turns on the tv and uses the remote to turn it up gradually and down gradually. I think it would surprise my students if I turned the TV in their lessons and would thus make the point memorable!
