Aaarggghh!!! Do you deal with this? Sometimes a student will skip a line or measure, and when I ask him to go back and play it, he tells me he already played it. He INSISTS he played it, even though he most definitely did NOT! It is one of my biggest pet peeves, and it’s hard not to act like a little child and stick out my tongue at him!
What do you do when students do this?

Ha-Ha! I’ve had this happen! No answers, though!
I have had this happen on a number of occasions and I usually let it go and feel a little bit annoyed deep down inside but next time it happens I will have my phone ready… My students are used to me regularly recording there pieces (ready for performance or not!) for assessment monitoring. I would pull it out press the quick access record button and ask them to play it again and see what happens. If they missed the same bit out then I would play back the recording and ask them to point at each note as they hear it on the recording!!!
My red-faced apologies for the grammar in the last comment, didn’t check it before hitting ‘post’. I do in fact regularly record their pieces!
Tell him you want to see if he can play it even better this time. Then say, “Hum the piece sounds really different this time. I like it better.”
