Relax, Share, and Laugh!

A while ago, I posted about a Skittles game we like to play in my studio to help learn staff notes. Another Skittles game we like to play was told to me by my high school piano teacher. This game is played at the piano.
You make several game cards that say “One up from A,” “Two up from D,” ”One up from F,” “Middle C,” you get the idea. You and your student each choose a Skittle for a game piece and place it at the lowest key on the keyboard. You each take turns drawing a card and moving your Skittle to the key indicated on the card. When the cards are done, whoever is the highest on the keyboard wins. That person gets to eat both game pieces.
My students love this game so much. Each student (on their own) always inevitably ends up drawing not just his/her own card, but mine as well. They also inevitably end up moving my game piece for me! It’s great practice for learning the notes at the keyboard. And I get to just sit back and relax!

Great Fun for everyone. Only one suggestion….you might want to substitute fresh skittles instead of eating the game pieces that everyone has touched. These kids hands are everywhere!!!
I have a question….Does anyone know of a site where I can download and print some easy Halloween songs?
Susan Paradis has a few fun ones she’s written on her website. http://www.susanparadis.wordpress.com/ They are easy and one of my brand new beginners is in love with all of them. I haven’t been able to find any other sites, but I would love a link if somebody else has had some luck!
Hi There,
I am really appreciating your blog to “connect” with another piano teacher, and your ideas are awesome. BTW I used this Skittles game yesterday and it was a big hit!! Although…I have had parents tell me afterwards ‘they don’t allow candy.’…..(can you imagine?):-)So in the future I will ask parents before doling out sweets.

Oh yes, I found a couple more Halloween songs at
http://www.gmajormusictheory.org. There are lots of good songs there that you can download and print. I used the two little songs on Susan Paradis site with my students and they work pretty well as a duet. You might have to change a couple of notes.
