This is a problem i get a lot and the best way i’ve found to solve it is to get the child to play something that ’should’ go slow. Such as one of my favorites, ‘Roses in the Springtime’ by Susan Paradis. When the child plays it too fast i ask them if they’ve ever seen roses running around the garden and being in a huge hurry, and when they say no, we discuss how roses sway in the breeze and they always seem to catch on and play in a much calmer way. Then when they play other songs way too fast i ask them to start playing it as if they were slowly swaying in the breeze and that after we’ve done that, then if the song needs it we can race around quickly.
