Relax, Share, and Laugh!

I have an incentive program where students can earn points by memorizing, technique exercises, practice, and so forth. Recently, I started giving extra points if students listen to a whole CD of instrumental music or attend a performance with live music. Because of this, most of my students have started listening to instrumental music like crazy! I love it. One 9 year old girl came in and said she listened to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and then proceeded to tell me in detail what she liked the most about it. I think it’s great when kids get exposed to instrumental music.
What do you do in your studios to encourage exposure to other types of music?

Try writing the call letters and location for your public radio station in your students’ assignment book. Some cities may have a classical music station (Houston used to, but it couldn’t survive). Occasionally, there is subject matter not suited for children, but it would be mainly during talk shows, not music. Satellite radio is also a source for people who have this in their cars.
Oh I hadn’t thought of that. That’s a great idea!
