What do you do when your students play the piano while you talk? It drives me insane, but it happens with at least one student every day. I will sometimes say, “Put your hands in the air!” and that works for a minute. But, inevitably, that student’s hands find their way back to the piano in the middle of my (VERY IMPORTANT) sentence. Any suggestions?

I labeled this as my “pet peeve” and made a big deal out of it. All I say when they are tempted to do this is “pet peeve” and they stop. OR I continue talking and gently close the piano lid. Works for me.
